What does it mean to say we trust God?

Trust is linked to patiently waiting for God to act. To say we trust him, but be unwilling to wait for him to act, is to deny that we actually trust him.

In the same way that virtue is demonstrated in the face of real temptation, trust is only discernible in the face of life's hardships.

A person who has never actually faced sexual temptation cannot know if their chastity is anything more than coincidence. Likewise a person who has never been tempted to hopelessness cannot know if their trust in God is only a matter of spoken words.

Each of us, if honest, should admit that we long for a life free of hardship. Yet it is these very same hardships that cultivate in us the character that God longs to develop in each of his children.

What do I believe?

I believe something has gone terribly wrong with the human race.

I believe we are a family, that has forgotten they are family.

I believe we know how we ought to live, but usually choose to live otherwise.

I believe we know we are meant to be greater than the sum of the atoms, from which are bodies are made.

I believe that there is a part of each of us that exists beyond what we can see, hear, taste, touch, and smell.

I believe we long for a purpose that is greater than our meager life-spans can account for.

I believe this longing is evidence that something greater than ourselves must exist.
